New GTK+ for Pidgin nightlies
Those of you using my nightly Pidgin builds for Windows will (probably) be pleased to hear that they are back online after a couple of weeks of broken builds.
The problem appears to be related to the usage of the Pango function pango_layout_is_ellipsized() in a revision of the Pidgin code around 29th of January. This bumps the GTK+ version requirement, and made my builds break because they are linked against GTK+ 2.0.
The issue was discussed on the pidgin-devel mailinglist, and has since been fixed. In the meantime, since future Pidgin builds will remove support for GTK+ 2.0 (and thus for Win9x and friends), I’ve decided to link future Pidgin nightlies against GTK+ 2.14. The source dependencies are still provided by the Pidgin team on their SourceForge download page, just not referenced in the Pidgin Wiki. The whole GTK-business is explained in detail by one of the core developers, John Bailey, in his blog post on the subject, and explains how this is often more of an issue on Linux distributions.
