The Da Vinci Flick

SPOILER ALERT: If you intend to read Dan Brown‘s “The Da Vinci Code” anytime soon (or ever), the text below may contain stuff you don’t want to know. Consider yourself warned.

So I’m reading The Da Vinci Code, which is all the rave at the moment. I must say it’s one of the more intriguing books I’ve read recently. It’s extremely fast-paced and yet it manages to stuff in lots of interesting and revealing truths about Opus Dei, the Priory of Sion and the Knights Templar (assuming one believes the prologue which states that “All descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents and secret rituals in this novel are accurate”). At first the information in the book seems to be mainly conspiracy-type ramblings about the Catholic Church hiding facts about the origin of Christianity and subduing the hidden symbols in famous works of art and so forth. But really, it manages – quite convincingly I might add – to tear apart (or undermine) the whole basis of Christianity and the origin of Jesus Christ, and in particular his relationship with Mary Magdalene. Naturally, there are numerous critical reviews of the book, claiming he’s reinterpreted the whole Grail legend, thus giving new meaning to ancient lore. I like it regardless, though.

Of course, there’s a great action-packed story told alongside all these supposed facts. The other day I was chatting with some friends about how it is bound to end up as a Hollywood flick, and it has, scheduled to start filming in May.
