C64 … lives … again! … I mean STILL!
Bet you thought the Commodore 64 was by now definitely as dead as wrist calculators?
Think again. There a literally hundreds of demo groups out there, striving to push every last clock cycle out of that 1MHz processor. Not to mention the stuff they do with the SID chip, 3 channels and all.
I believe one of the absolute state of the art Commodore 64 demos out at the moment is Cycle. Just out in February this year from a Swedish group who calls themselves Booze Design, it simply blew me away instantly. It carries no less than three seperate soundtracks – each pushing the SID to the limit – stunning real-time interference, 3D scrollers, stretched organic-like substances .. the whole #!.
Check it out at C64.ch. You’ll need CCS64, VICE or some other emulation software to run it (short of owning a real, live C64 with an internet connection, of course).
May the C64rce be with you!
