Code babble and smalltalk

Yes, I’m still here. I’ve just been busy…

School and two jobs on the side will steal any man’s time, no doubt about it. I’m attending a course on databases and another on HCI, and they both look quite promising. Never thought I’d say that about query optimization and user interfaces. ;-)

Anyway, in the little time that I have to myself, I’m still working on the PHP backend for the new site. PHPhiler will be entering alpha testing in a short time, and I can’t wait. It looks like I might be using it for the intranet at work, as well. In short, it’s a dynamic file indexing engine that retrieves various information about the current directory on the fly. At the moment, I’m just missing the final XHTML/CSS layout and code trimming. I also developed a (fairly simple) debugging system for the project that helps out a lot. It’ll probably take some tweaking to get it to run on anything else than the regular Linux/Apache configuration, but time will show which intriguing challenges that particular issue will pose.

Have you seen this man before? On a completely different note, I’ve seen the first 12 episodes of John Doe, which is a nice little series about a guy who wakes up naked on an island one day, and finds that he knows every fact and bit of information ever to see the light of day – except his own name and history. Bummer. Anyway, the soundtrack to the series includes music from various little known bands from the States, including Anabret. The group consists of four guys from Seattle, who have a very mature, yet rather melancholic sound to their songs. Visit their site, they have a couple of them available for download. Be sure to check out The Coming Night – it instantly became my favourite tune of the year.
